As many of you have probably noticed of late, there has been a drought of information regarding the status of the project. Some have contacted us, and we’re sure others have completely lost faith that we’ll ever reach the finish line. The only way to explain all this is that there simply hasn’t been anything newsworthy to report… until now.
The Shark is Still Working is done!! Or at least our first proposed cut of it is. We’ve watched all whopping three hours and fourteen minutes of it several times over the past weeks, and can’t wait for the chance to share it with everyone. We’ve ended up with a product that we think is far better than we ever dreamt, and are inspired to remember with fondness all the great fortune that has fallen on the project from day one. The fact that Steven Spielberg is in it, Roy Scheider narrates it, and that there are a number of factoids no previous Jaws documentary has ever covered (some of which are still top secret by the way) are among the dozens of reasons to be confident that we have something really special on our hands. This is also a good time to send out a very heartfelt thanks to all those who have assisted us in any capacity along the way. Even if it was just a photograph that you shared with us, you helped make TSISW dynamic and full of variety. So thank you!
Knowing that we’d be remiss if we didn’t run it by a few of the experts while we still can, we’ve had a few private screenings. Some of them were with the more knowledgeable Jaws fans that we know. Others were with actual Jaws veterans. So far, everyone is really helping us believe that we have ourselves a winner. This past weekend we had the pleasure of showing Joe Alves and Carl Gottlieb our copy the documentary in Los Angeles and they both loved it. Here is what Joe had to say: "I’ve been involved with many 'making of Jaws' documentaries in the past, but I must say I was truly fascinated with the approach the filmmakers took on this one that sets it apart from the rest. Not only does it cover the production stories of the film - which it does brilliantly - but it travels beyond that, into corners of the Jaws world I’ve never seen before. I was shocked to see how in-depth the documentary goes in portraying the Jaws fan base and the many ways the film has touched our culture. The Shark is Still Working is the complete expression of the Jaws phenomenon and I am very impressed. Great job, guys!" So where does that leave us? Now it’s just the waiting game through the acquisition and distribution process. Hopefully it won’t end up being too agonizing because after two years, we are primed to let TSISW spread its wings… ahem…fins.
PS. Our heartfelt thanks go to Joe for his kind words about the project. |
